Einstein, Pictures, and Models

Your mind ... models ... reality.

"Physical concepts are free creations of the human mind, and are not, however it may seem, uniquely determined by the external world.

In our endeavor to understand reality we are somewhat like a man trying to understand the mechanism of a closed watch.

He sees the face and the moving hands, even hears its ticking, but he has no way of opening the case.

If he is ingenious he may form some picture of a mechanism which could be responsible for all the things he observes, but he may never be quite sure his picture is the only one which could explain his observations.

He will never be able to compare his picture with the real mechanism and he cannot even imagine the possibility or the meaning of such a comparison."

Albert Einstein , 1938 (The Evolution of Physics)

Realization while talking with JB. Reality is so marvelous, so fantastic, we cannot even begin to understand or truly appreciate it. We can at best just model it.

a working definition:

A model is ...
  • a simplification of reality
  • useful for understanding (describing), anticipating (predicting) and interacting with (impacting) reality

From a flyer at Disney:

Remember ...

Everything begins with safety, and
(Base of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs)

Safety begins with me.

Another example of seeing a quote and quickly recognizing how it fits with the parts of life.

Coach Wooden Makes My Point

"Whether in basketball or business, you must be able to perform all aspects of your role, not just part of it. You must be able to 'get open' and 'shoot'. One without the other makes you a partial performer, someone who can be replaced because your skills are incomplete."
~John Wooden

Actually, my point is that you need to be able to contribute and participate in all aspects of your life.
